Usulután

The city of Ocelots




Usulután located in the eastern zone is one of the fourteen departments that make up the Republic of El Salvador.
Its head (main city) is Usulután that counts on a population of 73 064 inhabitants according to census of 2007, occupying the position number 15 in population. Its most important tourist attractions are the Usulutan volcano, the Alegría lagoon on the Tecapa volcano and the Jiquilisco bay, but the most picturesque city is the city of Jucuapa which has Cerro el Tigre, the freshness and the taste of the east The incomparable landscape of its coffee plantations and the warmth of its hospitable people that make of Jucuapa a unique city to the north of the department of Usulután with access in the North part by the Panamericana highway to only 118 kilometers of Capital City San Salvador and by the sector South By the Autopista Litoral crossing the Municipality of Santa Elena.


The department was created on June 22, 1865.

The Weather

Emblem

The formalization of the shield was granted on June 17, 1965, which was issued by the Ministry of Interior. However, until June 22 of the same year, along with the other symbols were declared as emblems of the department of Usulután.

Flag

It is composed of three horizontal stripes, in green the top, white the center and blue the bottom. The white strip carries twenty-three stars, which represent an equal number of municipalities. The white stripe symbolizes the peace and harmony of the Usulutean people; The green, the fertility of its soil; The blue, in addition to alluding to the limpid sky as benefactor, also reflects the immensity of the sea that bathes the shores of the usuluteco department.
